Buffy and her mom are shopping at the mall, arguing over an outfit that Buffy's not allowed to buy, when they split up to make use of the time they've got left.  While Buffy's running her mom's errand, she spots a cowboy  looking guy on the escalator who doesn't seem to cast a reflection on the shiny walls.  Buffy jumps off the escalator and follows him (and the girl he's with) to the abandoned arcade.  She gets rid of the girl, and immediately takes on the cowboy.  After fighting with her a bit, he runs away, and Buffy returns to her mom....having not been able to get to the store to pick up Joyce's dress.  Joyce gets a little snappy with Buffy, because she thinks she's showing a lack of responsibility.

At school the next day, Xander and Cordelia are making out in the utility closet...in between bouts of telling each other how much they can't stand each other.  Later, in sex ed, Xander and Cordelia continue the sparring in the open forum of the class, and Willow wonders what's going on.  The teacher hands out eggs to the classroom, as part of a parenting experiment.  Back in the library, Giles has found some info on the Vamp Buffy confronted the night before....he's one of the two Gorch brothers.    He proposes that Buffy and Angel go hunting for them that night.  Xander remarks sarcastically that there'd be a lot of hunting going on in THAT scenario.  Buffy accuses him of thinking that she and Angel are just helpless slaves to passion.

Cut to the graveyard, where Buffy and Angel are making out.  They manage to break apart for 15 seconds or so in a vain attempt to do what they came to do, and then fall into each other's arms again.  In the distance, The Gorch brothers watch, and wonder why the Slayer isn't slaying the vampire, and why 'Angelus' isn't fighting her.  That night, Buffy puts "Eggbert" to bed, and goes to sleep.  Before too long, there is a fissure in the egg, and a long pinkish tendril slithers out and touches Buffy's face.  She wakes up the next morning feeling sluggish, and the egg appears to be undisturbed.

At school, Xander, Buffy, and Willow all show up with their eggs.  Giles remarks that Buffy and Willow seem to be lethargic.  Xander, however, seems to be quite chipper.  They eventually discover, when he drops his egg and it doesn't break, that he'd hardboiled it.  He eventually takes off with some prodding from Cordelia to go look in 'closets' for the sex ed teacher who didn't show at school that day.  Later, at the cemetery, Buffy and Angel are 'hunting' again.  Buffy finally breaks away and says they've really got to get hunting for the Gorch's so she can go home and take care of her egg.  This sparks a conversation between them about children, and the future, and Angel tells Buffy that he, as a vampire, can never have kids.  Buffy claims that that's okay, and that she doesn't think of the future beyond wanting him in her life.  He feels the same way, and they lean back against a headstone while they kiss.  At the darkened school, the security guard heads to the basement on his rounds.  He discovers a big hole in the wall in the cellar, and when he investigates it, the sex ed teacher comes up behind him and knocks him out.

At home, Buffy climbs in through her window to notice that the egg is moving, like something is trying to break out of it.  As she stares at it, a total rip off of the parasite alien from the movie "Alien" jumps out and runs under the bed.  The Buffster grabs what looks like a letter opener, and stabs it to death.  She immediately calls Willow, and asks her to smash her egg.  Willow says HER egg is fine, and suggests that maybe it was a trap that the Gorch brothers left for Buffy.  They hang up, and we see Willow's egg, open and broken out of.  Joyce comes into Buffy's room and sees that she's dressed....assumes Buffy was going somewhere, and grounds her.

At school the next day, Joyce drops Buffy off and tells her strictly to wait in the library until 5:30 when she'll be back to pick her up.  Buffy corners Cordelia, and asks about her egg.  Cordelia acts confused, and says that her egg is in her backpack, and hasn't done anything.  Xander sits on a bench, and decides to eat his hardboiled egg for lunch.  What he finds inside is a smaller version of the creature that attacked Buffy.  The gang all agrees to meet in the anatomy lab later with Giles, to find out what the things are.  At the lab, Willow says that Giles will catch up to them later, and they try to decide who's gonna actually dissect the little spider looking thing.  While they argue about it, something moves in Cordelia's backpack, and a tendril breaks out of it and heads for her head.  A moment later, Cordelia and Willow act in tandem to knock Buffy and Xander out, and they drag them into a utility closet.

Willow and Cordelia and a bunch of other students head toward the basement, where they all pick up some tools and go down through the hole in the wall in the cellar.  In the library, Joyce shows up to pick up Buffy.  She doesn't find her there, but finds Giles lurking about.  Joyce vents a little about Buffy's irresponsibility, and she and Giles make conversation.  When she turns around, he reaches into the desk and pulls out one of the creatures and places it on her neck.  She screams and falls to the floor.  We then see them walking down to the basement together.  In the utility closet, Xander and Buffy come to, and discover two eggs left in there with them to posses them.  Can you say "Invasion of the Body Snatchers"?  Or even "The Puppetmasters"?  Buffy smashes them, and they go to the library, to discover broken eggshells there.  They deduce that Giles has been possessed, and they find a book open to a page of a great big ugly creature, that they assume is the creature directing all of the smaller ones.

In the basement, all of the students and teachers are digging in the floor, pulling out eggs.  They also are breaking through to the large creature, underneath the floor.  Out in the hallway, Jonathan (he DOES show up everywhere, doesn't he?) gets possessed, and Buffy and Xander follow him to the basement and through the hole in the wall.  They realize that the possessed people are taking the eggs out so that they can be spread out into the town, and posses more people.  Xander says he'll stop that, while Buffy goes after the mommy alien thingy.  While she's finding a weapon, the Gorch brothers show up, and start fighting her.  They tumble into the room with all of the people digging, and Buffy sees her mom.  Willow orders the zombies to 'kill them', and suddenly Lyle Gorch and Buffy are fighting together to fend off the zombies.  Meanwhile, Xander is following Cordelia, who is taking eggs through the tunnels to the outside.  He tries to avoid hurting her, but ends up knocking her out.

Back in the egg room, Tector Gorch finally enters, and gets too close to the creature in the floor .  It lashes out a long tentacle, and drags him in.  Moments later, it gets Buffy too, who manages to grab a pick on her way down.  Everyone stops and stands perfectly still as we hear sounds of battle from beneath the floor, and then everyone collapses.  Buffy climbs out, covered in alien blood, and glares at Lyle Gorch, who runs for his life.  Outside, everyone mills around in confusion while Giles tells them all it was a gas leak.  Joyce catches up with Buffy, and tells her that since she wasn't in the library when she went there, NOW she's confined to her room.  We cut to Buffy in the window sill of her room kissing Angel, who is sitting outside on the roof.  Yay,  everyone's happy once again.

Flaws:  None found.

Thoughts on the Episode:    I didn't really think too much of this one....it was an okay regular episode, but considering that it was our LAST regular episode before everything changed, I guess I expected more.  The theme was a total rip off of
Invasion of the Body Snatchers
, and the little aliens looked like the parasite aliens from Ridley Scott's "Alien", and all its sequels.  Not too much originality here.  It did introduce Lyle Gorch to us, who shows up in a later episode.  Jonathan had a cameo, and Cordy and Xander's relationship has progressed.  One cool part....the headstone that Buffy and Angel are kissing next to in the cemetery says "In loving memory"....a bit of foreshadowing of the end of their relationship.

Best Line:

Giles:  "I suppose there is a bit of Machiavellian ingenuity to your solution."

Xander:  "I resent that!....Or possibly thank you."
