We open at the Bronze, where Oz's band Dingoes Ate my Baby is performing, and Xander and Willow are really nervous around each other, due to their recently budding feelings for one another. They all discuss how Buffy's been distracted recently, and wonder if she has a secret boyfriend. Buffy, meanwhile, is out doing synchronized slaying with Faith. After wailing on their respective vamps while Giles watches, a woman calling herself Gwendolyn Post shows up and criticizes their 'sloppy' slaying. She says she's Faith's new Watcher. In the library, Gwendolyn says she was sent there by the council to be Faith's watcher, and also report on the entire situation there. Apparently, the council fears that Giles has become too American. She says also that the demon Lagos is coming to Sunnydale seeking the glove of Milligan, which is highly dangerous. During the course of the briefing, she insults Giles and his Watcher abilities several times.
At the mansion, Buffy and Angel practice Tai Chi together, touching amidst the slow, sensual moves. Buffy turns and they almost kiss before she breaks away. She apologizes for it, and they talk about how hard it is to be around each other like this. To stop talking about the sexual tension between them, Buffy tells him about hunting for Lagos that night. At the name of the demon, Angel becomes distracted and tells Buffy to be careful. Back at the library, Gwen Post seems to have lit a fire under Giles about this whole Lagos thing, and he pushes Willow and Xander to help him find out what they can about him soon. Xander and Willow end up kissing passionately, and Giles finds out where the crypt of Milligan is. Xander leaves to go check it out and let Buffy know. Meanwhile Buffy and Faith are calling it a night, after Buffy refuses to talk about her past with Angel. As Faith's walking home, she encounters the Lagos demon rifling through a crypt, looking for the glove, which he doesn't find. She fights him a little, but he's strong, and beats her before leaving. In the cemetery, Xander sees Angel leaving the crypt and is shocked that he's alive. He follows him to the mansion, and when he looks in the window he sees Angel and Buffy kissing.
In the room, Buffy and Angel break apart, shocked themselves at what thy were doing. Buffy makes to leave, saying that she shouldn't have even come back there, but Angel stops her, showing her the glove he retrieved from the crypt. Xander runs back to Giles's place, and tells him what he saw. At school the next day, Buffy walks into the library to find the whole gang staring at her. Giles tells her they know that Angel's alive, and that she's been hiding him. They basically all (except for Willow) jump all over her for harboring a known murderer, and don't really believe her when she tells them he's better now. After everyone else leaves, Giles reminds her that Angel tortured him for hours, for pleasure, and says that Buffy has no respect for Giles, or the job that he performs. Giles especially feels like he's lost control of the situation because of all of the insinuations by Gwen Post that he's not doing his job very effectively.
Gwen Post goes to Faith's motel room. They kind of bond, and Gwen tells Faith about the secret meeting that morning with Giles and Buffy and Buffy's friends. At the Bronze, Faith meets up with Xander who is playing pool; and really pissed off. After questioning him, Faith learns that Angel is still alive, Buffy knew, and that he's got the glove. She gets just as pissed, and they both head off to go 'slay' Angel right then and there. In Giles's office, Giles tell Gwen that he knows where the glove is. Gwen wants to go to it right away so they can hide it, but Giles has found a way to destroy it. When his back is turned, Gwen knocks him out (how many times HAS Giles been knocked out, anyway?). At the crypt in the cemetery, Buffy and Willow wait for Lagos to show up looking for the glove. Willow comes close to telling Buffy about her and Xander, but Lagos turns up first, and takes Buffy on. They fight, and Buffy lops his head off with his own sword. Buffy tries to get Willow to finish what she was saying, but Willow doesn't.
At the library, Faith and Xander come in for some weapons, and find Giles lying on the floor. Xander calls 911, and Faith is convinced right away that Angel did this. She wants to go kill him, but (amazingly) Xander says this isn't Angel's style. Faith doesn't care, and leaves to go kill him while Xander waits with Giles. At the mansion, Angel has started the spell to destroy the glove. This glove, by the way, is supposed to give the wearer enormous power, and can't be removed once it's put on.....just so ya know. Buffy and Willow arrive at the library to find Giles being wheeled out on a gurney. Xander tells Buffy that Faith went on ahead to kill Angel. Buffy leaves, at speed. At the mansion, Gwen Post shows up, saying that Giles sent her. She knocks Angel out with a shovel when his back is turned, but he doesn't stay down for long. He pops back up with his vamp face on. He quickly gains the upper hand, but Faith comes in and witnesses him beating her Watcher up and pummels him. Just as she's about to stake him Buffy shows up, and fights Faith. While they're fighting, Willow and Xander arrive, helping Gwen get to the glove so they can all 'destroy' it. Xander goes out to try to stop the slayers, and Faith hits him to keep him out of it. In the main room, Gwen hits Willow to knock her out, and puts the glove on. It causes lightening to strike and clouds to broil, and gets Faith and Buffy's attention. Gwen tells Faith how stupid she is, and tries to blast them with the glove, but Buffy brings them out of the way. She then tries to blast Willow (who has just stood), but Angel regains consciousness and knocks her out of the way. Buffy tells Faith to draw Gwen's fire, which she does, and Buffy cuts her arm off with a spinning blade, causing Gwen to go up in fiery ashes.
At school the next day, Buffy and her friends make up, and Giles tells the gang that Gwen was kicked out of the council a couple years ago. Buffy heads to Faith's motel room where Faith refuses to make nice, and won't trust Buffy. Faith feels hurt after having trusted Gwen, and doesn't' want to make the mistake again. Buffy leaves.
FLAWS: None found, although they bring up this whole council thing again, which still bugs me. Also with the Council still all keeping Giles out of the loop, like in Faith, Hope, and Trickery. He should have known this information already.
THOUGHTS ON THE EPISODE: Decent. Plus we get the first signs of Angel and Buffy being back together, which is always awesome. Xander totally got on my nerves in this episode, though. He's always so self-righteous, and sanctimonious. Right...Xander. You always do what's best. Like kissing Oz's girlfriend in the library earlier, and simultaneously cheating on Cordelia. Like lying to Buffy about Willow's message in Becoming pt.2. Whatever.
BEST LINE: Giles: "Apparently she was kicked out of the council a couple years ago for delving into the black arts. They swear they sent a memo."
