The episode opens with a dream/fantasy of Xander's in which he gets to save Buffy from some vamps.  He wakes up in Biology class, with a teacher who's hard on Buffy, but wants her to do her best.  He gives her a fresh start, and a newfound confidence in her abilities in class.  He is then immediately murdered after she leaves.

Later, at the Bronze, Angel shows up.  He warns her about a new vampire menace. He takes off his leather jacket (exposing naked arms....aahhhhh) and drapes it around Buffy because she's cold, and then vanishes mysteriously, leaving Buffy intrigued.  Xander has a testosterone match with a fellow Bronzer named Blake...they both brag about their "conquests".

The next day at school, Buffy's science teacher Dr. Gregory is reported missing, and a sub shows up.  Her name is Miss French, and Xander is immediately in lust with her...but so is Blake.  During class Miss French shows a preoccupation with bugs, and invites Blake and Xander to help her work on an "after school project"  That day at lunch Dr. Gregory's body is found headless in the cafeteria.  That night, Buffy goes to the park to look for the vamp Angel warned her about, wondering if there's a connection.  She finds the vampire, but he is scared off when he sees Miss French walking home with some groceries.

Buffy thinks this is way X-Files, and shares her suspicions with Giles.  Late for Biology, she sees Miss French turn her head all the way around.  She figures out that Miss French is a giant shape-shifting praying mantis.  Meanwhile, Miss French arranges for Xander to come over to her house that night to work on the "project".  Buffy confronts Xander about Miss French, but he wails on her, upset that she thinks "Miss French couldn't be attracted" to him.

At Miss French's place, the bug-in-disguise attempts to seduce Xander.  She drugs his drink and throws him in a cage in the basement, right next to Blake.  She wants to mate with them and kill them, so she can get her eggs fertilized.  It turns out that she had selected them because they were both virgins.  Buffy goes to track down the vampire from the park, finds him, and forces him to lead them to Miss French's place.

They get inside, and Buffy kills Miss French, who now looks like a giant Praying Mantis.  Xander then hacks up her eggs.  Later at the Bronze, Angel shows up.  He and Buffy flirt a little, and then he leaves, after letting her keep the jacket because "it looks better" on her.  (that's a matter of opinion...but then again..he certainly DOES look good without it on...  :).  The ending shot shows some eggs hidden in the science lab closet about to hatch.

Flaws:  What about those eggs in the end? We never heard anything about them again.  The potential flaw is why they were there to begin with.  We're left assuming that Miss French mated with Dr. Gregory, and ate his head.  But I thought she needed virgins? Are we really supposed to believe that this fortysomething doctor/teacher was a virgin? Possible, but not likley.

Thoughts on the Episode:  An okay episode..we're shown in a little more detail Xander's growing jealousy over Angel, and Buffy and Angel's growing attraction.  This is also the episode where I stopped wishing for Xander and Buffy to get together.  Up until this point, I thought i would be a nice change from the norm if the guy next door got the girl.  But after seeing Angel in that tank top....mm.  Also, I suppose the chemistry between SMG and DB helped a little.
