What's up with Giles not knowing another slayer had been called, anyway?  Discuss this topic on the Message Board.
The episode begins right where the last one left off.  Buffy is confused, and tells Kendra that SHE is the vampire slayer.  Neither believes the other, and Buffy proposes that they call a truce until they can get to Giles to figure out what's going on.  We cut to Angel, who's still locked in the cage at Willy's.  The sunlight streams into the cage, and Angel has backed into the only corner of darkness left.

Back at the library, Giles determines that Kendra is, indeed, a vampire slayer.  He figures out that she must have been called when Buffy died in her fight with the Master (Prophecy Girl, last season)  Apparently the fact that she was revived a few moments later doesn't matter..in that amount of time a new slayer was activated.  Buffy is really short with Kendra, and doesn't want her there, but Kendra seems to be getting along just fine with Giles.  She is hard working, devout in her slayerness, and calls him "sir"  All of this just makes Buffy not like her more, and she asks why Kendra attacked her.  Kendra tells Buffy that she saw her kissing Angel (who was obviously a vampire), and made the connection.  Buffy explains about Angel being a good guy now, but Kendra doesn't believe her.  She inadvertently slips about the fight she had with Angel at Willy's, and Buffy and Kendra go there.  At the same time, in the storage room, Willy removes a weakened Angel from the cage, and drops him through a hole in the floor to a tunnel beneath.  He follows, and meets Spike while Angel lies on the ground, half out of it.  Spike pays him, and takes off with Angel, who's shirt has mysteriously popped open (not that I mind the view...but what exactly happened, he was fully dressed a minute ago?  It's the Captain Kirk syndrome...the way they always subtly found a way to get half of his shirt torn off, each episode).

At Buffy's house, Cordelia is looking over the cosmetic samples that the assassin-in-disguise has brought in.  She notices a larva on his hand, and starts to feel wiggy.  Xander comes down from upstairs, and is about to usher the man out the door when he notices another bug crawling into the man's ear.  They run from him, and end up in the basement.  Xander tapes the bottom of the door to keep the bugs from entering.  Cut to Willy's Place, where Buffy and Kendra discover Angel gone.  Kendra tackles Willy, and Buffy tells her she can't go around attacking everyone before she even asks questions.  Willy tells them that he saved Angel from becoming a "crispy critter", and Angel is now underground recuperating.  Kendra says that now they can go back to Giles for orders, and Buffy replies that she doesn't take orders...she does things her way.  Kendra says "No wonder you died" (actually, in her accent, it sounds more like na woonder ye dyed.)

At Spike and Drusilla's place, Spike roughly brings Angel down.  He tells her now that they have her "sire", all they need is the full moon that night to work the ritual that will bring her health back.  Drusilla asks if she can "have him" (Angel), until the moon.  Spike appears to be a little jealous, but allows her to "play" with him until the ritual.  At school the next day, Giles believes that the "dark power" Kendra's watcher sent her to fight in Sunnydale is the ritual that Spike's going to be performing to heal Dru.  In the course of their discussion, Kendra tells them how she's read of the Order of Turaka in her studies.   Giles seems quite taken with the idea of a Slayer actually studying about demons, and Kendra's obviously serious approach to Slaying.  Giles tells Buffy she'd better put in an appearance at the Career Fair so Snyder won't be suspiscious, and Kendra is incredulous that Buffy is a student at Sunnydale High.  She cannot believe that she attends school, AND has friends, AND that her being the Slayer is not a secret to some people.  (More about this under "Flaws")  Kendra and Giles make off to research more about the Order of Turaka, and Buffy commiserates to Willow about her twinge of jealousy.  Willow tells Buffy that Giles would never like Kendra more than Buffybecause Buffy was his Slayer, the real Slayer.

In the basement at Buffy's house, the tension is rising between Xander and Cordelia.  After yelling at each other, they end up kissing.   Then they decide that it would be a really good idea to get out of there.  While running through the house the larvae drop on Cordelia from the ceiling.  Outside, Xander turns the hose on her to get the bugs off.  They take off in her car.  Back at Career Fair, Buffy decides to check out the law enforcement seminar.  She leaves Willow to talk to Oz, who has come up to talk with her.  When the female police officer calls Buffy's name, Buffy raises her hand, and the cop pulls a gun on her.  Buffy fights her, and ducks behind a table.  Tracking Buffy, the cop fires directly at Willow.  Oz shouts "Look out!" and knocks Willow out of the way, taking the bullet.  Kendra shows up and bails Buffy out by kicking the crap out of the cop.  The cop loses both of the guns she had on her, and pulls a knife out of her hair (pretty cool!), taking Jonathan hostage.  When she sees that she's got no chance, she throws him to the floor and runs out.  Kendra gives chase, but loses her.

Back in the library, Xander and Cordelia arrive, looking worse for the wear.  Cordelia leaves to go shower, and Buffy remarks on Xander's thing with Bug people.  They all determine that the attack on Buffy is intensifying.  Giles tells the gang that he's figured out what Spike needs for the ritual...Drusilla's sire.  Buffy tells Giles that ANGEL is Drusilla's sire, and finds out that this ritual, if completed, will kill him.  Buffy gets on the gung-ho train to stop the ritual, and Kendra says that her priorities are messed up..she should be thinking about stopping Spike and Drusilla, not saving Angel.  Buffy tells her that right now their priorities mesh, and they should work together.

At Drusilla's, Angel is tied to the posts at the bottom of the bed, and Dru is torturing him with Holy water.  She taunts him with the deaths of her family, whom he killed.  Back at the library, Xander and Cordelia have identified the assassin they encountered, and Buffy and Kendra talk about the differences in their lives.  Kendra tells Buffy that her life is so strange to her...Kendra was sent to her Watcher when she was very young...she doesn't even remember her parents.  That is "how seriously the calling is taken by my people", she says.  They decide to go to Willy's and see if he knows anything about where Angel may have been taken.  We cut back to Drusilla's, where Angel is lying helpless and stretched out, tied against the bottom posts of the bed (shirtless....aaahhh).  Spike shows up and says it's time for the ritual.  Angel tells Spike that he and Dru don't have the fire that HE and Dru had, and basically makes Spike angry as hell with jealousy, to the point where Spike is about to kill him.  Spike figures out that Angel tried to trick him into killing him now, so he can't be used in the ritual, and doesn't follow through.  They head off to an abandoned church.  Back at Willy's, Buffy is pummeling Willy, trying to get him to tell her about the ritual.  He is reluctant at first, but eventually says that he can take her to where the ritual is going to be performed.  Kendra says they should go back to the Watcher first, but Buffy vetoes the idea, saying Angel could die if they don't get to him soon.  Kendra says that he is a vampire, and SHOULD die.  Buffy turns and leaves with Willy.

At the church, Willy delivers Buffy to the two remaining assassins, and some vamps.  They drag her into the room where Spike is performing the ceremony, and Angel is already being tapped of his energy and life.  Spike is about to kill Buffy when Kendra comes running in with the gang, and fighting ensues.  Buffy handles Spike while Kendra gets the cop from the career fair.  Willow and Giles stake a couple vamps, and Cordelia and Xander kill the Bug-man when he turns into his little larvae to follow them by entering under a door.  Cordy had put down liquid adhesive, and the bugs become trapped, where Cordelia and Xander smash them to death.  Buffy manages to get to Angel, and pulls out the knife that keeps his hand merged with Dru's.  Spike knocks Buffy out of the way, and takes Drusilla, hoping that she's had enough.  He starts to carry her out, but Buffy throws the incense burner at him and knocks him down, burying him and Drusilla underneath a large section of the church.  Buffy gets to Angel, and she and Kendra help him out of the burning church.

At school the next day, Oz has gotten a box of animal crackers out of the vending machine, but cannot open it because of his arm, which is in a sling.  Willow takes the box from him and opens it, as she tries to thank him for saving her life.  Oz "doesn't do thanks", and changes the subject, telling her she's got the sweetest smile he's ever seen (ooh, I love Oz! He's truly the coolest character, even at this point).  They walk off together, talking, and we cut to Xander and Cordelia meeting in the hallway.  Cordelia turns to walk away from him, but Xander catches up to her and they talk.  Xander tells  her that they should just forget about it, but they end up kissing again.  Outside, Kendra is preparing to leave.  Buffy jokes about Slaying like it's a job, and Kendra tells her it's not, that it's who she is.  Buffy feels like a freak, but Kendra tells her she's not the only one...and Buffy feels a little better.  We cut to the church, which is still smoldering.  Drucilla pulls Spike up out of the rubble, and says "Don't worry dear heart, I'll help you get strong again...like me." And she carries him out of the church.

Flaws:

My big problem with this one is the whole "Slayer's secret" thing.  Kendra's real big on keeping it a secret, and is all agog when she finds out Buffy's got a circle of friends who know who she is, and a family, and attends school and stuff.  But then she turns right around and tells Buffy that she was sent to her Watcher when she was very young by her parents, and that being the Slayer is taken very seriously by her people.  It doesn't sound like it's much of a secret where she comes from, either.

Thoughts on the Episode:  I liked this one.  It had action, a theme, more Oz, and more Angel with no shirt on.  What more could you want? This episode lays the groundwork for the whole "second slayer" thing.  So no matter what happens from now on, we'll always have two slayers.  One of my friends noted something on this episode...why don't they just kill and revive the slayers a few times, and increase their numbers? I mean, how much sense does it make to have "one girl in all the world" be the only one to fight the forces of darkness, anyway? Now that they know the secret, they could make a whole legion of Slayers.

Anyway...another thought:  Buffy was only dead for like, two minutes in "Prophecy Girl", but we're led to believe that in that two minutes, Kendra was called.  My question is this...who does the calling? If we go by the movie, Buffy had no idea she was a Slayer until Merrick told her so.  But Kendra's "people" for some reason knew her whole life that she was going to be called.  And how did Kendra's Watcher know that Buffy had died, and Kendra was ready to be the next slayer, anyway? I mean, I'd go for that whole "the signs pointed to it, and mystal converging", and all that, but then why didn't he know that Buffy was alive again?  For that matter, why didn't Giles know (or at least think about the possibility) that there was another Slayer called? Just a curiosity.  At this point in the series, the Council has never been mentioned...so we can't assume that they're the ones who call the new slayers...and even if we do, the question remains.  Why wasn't Kendra UN-called when the council knew Buffy wasn't really dead? Or at the very least, why didn't they inform Giles that there was another slayer, now?

Best Line:

A lot of good lines in this ep, actually...but here's one of 'em.  When Xander and Cordelia arrive at the library after their battle with the bugman,  Kendra is introduced as a Slayer.  Xander says "A slayer..." (turns to Buffy) "I knew this 'I'm the only one, I'm the only one' thing was just an attention getter!"
